Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is dipping its toes into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The new project, called the Space Key, is a piece created in collaboration with an unknown artist. The NFT is an exclusive piece of digital art that can be accessible via an QR code. The project is a limited edition and will be auctioned off in the next few weeks.

The Space Key is made from carbon fiber composite material that Lamborghini sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of an investigation project. The carbon fiber was transformed into an original artwork after it returned to Earth. The physical element is equipped with an NFT serial code that connects to the digital artwork through a QR code on the back.

For those who aren't in the know, NFTs are unique identification numbers that are stored on a distributed blockchain ledger, and linked to a digital asset such as a video, image or music. This allows owners to verify the authenticity, scarcity, and tracking of their tokens across the internet.

Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art a step further by working with NFT PRO, an white label NFT solution for business. In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will release details about the exciting project, including the name of the unknown artist as well as a timeline for the auction.

After weeks of social media posts hinting at it, the luxury automobile maker Lamborghini finally announced its first project involving non-fungible tokens (NFT). Called the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork NFT by an artist yet to be identified. Created in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the "collector's work" is limited to only five units and will soon be auctioned off.

After returning to Earth the block was engraved with a QR code that links to the digital element of the Space Key.

Oefner utilized a balloon with a camera to take each of the individual images, that were then merged to create the final image. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, however the exact date and location of the auction hasn't been announced yet.
